Sudbury Star Article Guidelines
1. The approximate length of the article should be about 2 pages typed double-space. Readers tend to avoid really long articles. If yours need's to be long, consider making it into a 2 part series.
2. An interesting or catchy title can attract readers-- especially an unbeliever who is scanning the "Faith & Ethics" page really quick. Don't be upset if they change your title though; it happens all the time.(editorial license)
3. Keep the articles positive so that we become known as positive proclaimers of truth rather that negative denouncers of other groups. It's fine, of course, to be negative toward sin (eg. gambling, abortion etc.) if that is the topic of your column.
4. We can mention our own local church or ministry in our column but it shouldn't become the main focus nor should we use it as "free advertising".
5. However, put your name, position and local church or ministry name clearly at the beginning or end of your article, so that readers can easily identify who you are. The paper also encourages the writer's photo to be included. Gino is one of the paper's photographers and can take your photo from 9 to 11 a.m. (Mom. to Fri.) at the Star office. Call first for an appointment. 674-5271
6. You have 4 ways to submit your article (in order of preference and convenience):
*Email: darrenmac@thesudburystar.com (to the attention of Darren McDonald, 'Faith & Ethics Page").
*Drop it off on computer hard disc (they will return your disc)
* Fax it to: 674-6834 preferably (or 674-0624).
*Drop off a typed copy in person.
7. The DEADLINE is TUESDAY for an article appearing in the Saturday issue.
8. The "Faith & Ethics Page" Editor is Darren McDonald. You can reach him at 674-5271 extention 242.
Circulation for the Saturday paper is almost 29,000 copies.
